  • If you choose to complete the 13 workshops in this series, you have the opportunity to be listed in the MCDT Practitioner Registry.  There is a growing awareness of MCD and we receive many requests from clients seeking therapists who have MCD training.

  • Join a community of practitioners with shared values and desire to cultivate thriving relationships!

We envision and will support a community of practice with fellow MCDT trained therapists for continued integration of the principles, techniques, and system of MCD in therapy.  This community of practice may include peer practice groups, and practice groups with mentorship. The community is invited to collaborate to develop creative strategies to meet needs that are not included in the list above.

    Founding Community Opportunity:

Ava has been actively tending to and cultivating MCD Therapy since 2020. We are excited to share this work with you and to invite you into the MCD community. Upon completion of this training, we look forward to connecting with practitioners who are interested in contributing to the continued development and teaching of MCD therapy. We see this expanding greatly in the years to come!

MCD Therapy can be applied with both couples and individuals. The learning is designed through the lens of couples therapy.

Level 1: Live

Attend one or all of our upcoming 4 hour MCD Relationship Competency Trainings.

Level 1: Self-Paced

Attend one or all of these pre-recorded MCD Relationship Competency Trainings.

Take one or all of the 13 foundational workshops (4 hours each) that comprise Level 1. Each workshop stands complete on its own, offering immediate value and clinical application. Together, they form a comprehensive 52-hour training in the MCDT framework and all 12 relationship competencies.

While the competencies build on each other in a developmental sequence, there is real value in choosing individual workshops that address specific areas of your work. Whether you need skills for working with reactivity, supporting repair, or strengthening boundaries, you can enter where your clients need you most.

This training integrates what couples actually need: communication skills that work and practices to cultivate the capacity to access them when it matters most. You'll learn to teach appreciation, empathy, honest expression, and needs-based negotiation while also addressing what gets in the way—nervous system dysregulation and protective strategies that organize around tender needs.

FAQS

  • This training is designed for licensed mental health professionals and graduate-level trainees working with couples and individuals in relationships - including counselors, psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists.

    • You believe healing happens in relationship and want to offer couples a clear path from protection to connection

  • While this training is designed for couples therapy, the competencies and foundations are equally valuable for individual therapy with clients working on relational goals.

    MCDT serves clients who:

    • Are seeking hope and a clear path toward thriving relationships (not just managing conflict)

    • Want to understand what's actually happening beneath their reactive patterns

    • Are ready to develop skills for staying present when conversations get hard

    • Want to deepen their capacity for love, care, and collaborative connection

    • Value both practical tools and personal transformation

    • Are ready to practice new ways of relating, and moving toward power-with relationship dynamics

    What makes MCDT accessible:

The 12 Relationship Competencies and 9 Foundations provide a clear, trackable map. Clients understand where they are, what they're building, and which skills to practice. This moves clients from confusion about the therapeutic process to clarity - both in session and in daily life.

As a couples therapist, I am continually moved by how clients who are new to MCD Therapy often leave their consultations feeling deeply inspired and renewed with hope. The clarity of the MCD map provides not only insight but also a tangible, empowering framework for growth. It lights the way forward, offering a practical yet profoundly compassionate approach to the healing journey ahead. (Ava Frank)
